Action Plan 9/9

Beliefs: love and appreciation for each student - I think it's important to foster an environment that makes each student feel welcomed and recognized. I think that in order to do so, it is important to have high expectations of each student, and give them corrections so they feel seen.

At a glance: In order to have a successful classroom environment, there needs to be rules and mindsets that everyone follows so we are all on the same page.

#1 Rule: Respect each other's time, space, feelings, and emotions.

Procedures:

Beginning the day- entering the class and putting things down calmly and individually stretching

End of the day- thank the teacher, quickly pack up things and pick up all belongings

Using the water fountain/getting a drink- students should ask nicely to get water if it’s in the middle of a lesson, but don’t have to ask during designated breaks

Helping other students- if another student is struggling with a step or having a hard time learning the dance, students are encouraged to help each other as long as they are being respectful of the teacher and each other

Signals for attention- students should learn that the music stopping means to direct their focus to the teacher and listen to what they’re saying

Attendance- students should say “here” when their name is called, but not speak out of turn

Finding lost items — Ask the people around you if they found the item you lost; if not, check the Lost and Found box; if it is not there, ask me at a time when I’m not teaching the class; if you find it, thank the person who turned it in; next time, try to take care of your things

Getting tissues — You may get a tissue from the closest of the four tissue boxes whenever you need one; you don’t even have to ask; throw the used tissue away immediately; make sure it lands in the trash can; get right back to work.

Turning in lost items — Ask the people around you if they lost the item you found; if not, write your name and the date on a slip of paper and tape the item to it

3 Positive Consequences

1. Give a different student each class a small reward at the very end of class (sticker, candy, etc)

2. Give high fives to all students on the way out of the door and compliment all of the students on their hard work

3. Give praise at different points throughout class so everyone feels seen and proud of their hard work

Strong and long term

1. Student of the month

2. Certificate/Graduation

3. Small party at the end of semester to celebrate hard work

Correcting Behavior

1. Look

2. speak to students one on one instead of reprimanding in front of the whole class- if they get embarrassed they might continue to act out

3. contact student’s parent

4. try to understand what I could do to help student feel better in class
